Riftworld Chronicles

The CBC has a webseries called Riftworld Chronicles. I’ve watched the first three episodes, and found them quite enjoyable  in a light sort of way. Keith, the lady has long locks of hair that shine red, and ladies, take note:  “OMG arms!” (in the 2nd episode.) Annoyingly, the same ad at the start of every episode.

The third episode is hilarious, until the very end, when an ambulance has to be called.  I think I’m getting hooked, I have to leave you now to find out what happens next.

Theodore Bikel, acted in everything and anything, from the original Broadway musical, Sound of Music, to the role of Worf’s adopted father,  Sergey Rozhenko  in ST:TNG.  He was also a social activist, participating in voter registration drives during the civil rights movement, and a demo outside the Soviet embassy to protest the Soviet treatment of Jewish citizens.   And somehow he still found time to be a folksinger, co-foundeding  the Newport Folk Festival with Pete Seeger, Harold Leventhal, Oscar Brand, and George Wein.

A spectacular new horned dinosaur discovered in southern Alberta has been named after the fossil hunter who found it.

ROYAL ONTARIO MUSEUM Scientists have discovered a new horned dinosaur collected from a bone bed in southern Alberta. Wendiceratops is one of the oldest known members of the family that includes triceratops. The Wendiceratops pinhornensis, which was about six metres long, was found in a bone bed near Milk River by Alberta photographer Wendy Sloboda in 2010.

“I was out looking for dinosaurs and found the dinosaur bones. I knew there were lots of skull bones,” Sloboda said. “They were really distinctive so I collected it and brought it back and showed it to (paleontologists) Michael (Ryan) and David (Evans) the next summer when they came out.

Pool Party and BBQ in the Park–Please RSVP!

Where are the goldfish shoals?

If you are planning to attend Wayne’s Pool party, July 11th, please contact him ASAP, <wayneglover915@yahoo.ca> The event does necessitate some planning, purchasing of supplies, the making of mom’s fabulous potato salad, etc, so if Wayne does not hear from you, it will be cancelled.

The BBQ in the park on July 19th is facing the same dilemma–no response save for one who sent his regrets.  We need some idea of numbers in order to plan.  Please contact <cathypl@sympatico.ca> if you are planning to attend.  This event is open to everyone in Montreal fandom!

Details on both events can be found here:  http://www.monsffa.ca/?p=1215
