The photos are of two Mobile suits from the Gundam Anime & Manga series.

The grey/blue figure is a 1/100 Master Grade kit of an RX-78-3 “G-3” Gundam, while the darker blue unit is a 1/144 High Grade kit of the MS-04 “Bugu” Mobile suit.
I believe that the “G-3” Gundam appeared in several side stories related to the original Gundam series, although it did not appear in the anime.
“The RX-78-3 Gundam is the closest to Yoshiyuki Tomino’s conception of the Gundam. As he wanted to stress that it was a true military machine, a weapon of war a “real robot”, he originally wanted it’s entire color scheme to be dull and grayish, however the sponsor had concerns that this would limit it’s appeal to children and marketability as a toy, hence the final version in series follows the color scheme of the RX-78-2 rather than the RX-78-3.”

The model was the earliest of the master grade kits. It lacks the detail and pose ability of the 2.0, 3.0 & The Origin kit series. It was built out of box, and painted using a combination of Testor’s Model Master lacquer & Andrea acrylic paints.
The MS-04 “Bugu” is an early version of a Zeon Mobile Suit developed by Dr. Minovsky. It appears in the Gundam: The Origin manga/anime. I’ve attached a YouTube clip of it’s first appearance in the anime series, which shows it’s pilot trying to stop Dr. Minovsky from defecting to the Earth Federation Forces.

The kit was again built out of box. The main body color is Floquil Lacquer paints ConRail Blue, which is a close match of the original plastic color. The backpack, joints, lower abdomen were painted using Testor’s Panzer Schwartz Grau. While the shield, hands, & heat hawk (axe) were done in Testor’s Weather Deck Blue. The edge of the Heat Hawk was done in Testor Metalizer Dark Anodonic Grey. The paint attacked and crazed the underlying paint, so I
ran an acrylic black wash over it to accentuate the detail. Then stippled a combination of Testor’s enamel Tangerine & Sunburst to create the glowing flame effect on the blade. Finally, adding a Clear Red wash to blend it.
The RX-78-3 Gundam “G-3” is a variation of the RX-78-2 Gundam. It first appeared as part of Mobile Suit Variations model kit series and later appeared in the game Gundam Battle Universe and Gundam the Ride: A Baoa Qu. I’m actually starting to prefer building the High Grade kits as a relaxing build.
I’ll start on something new as soon as I clear the workbench. Comet TV has started replaying the Battlestar Galactica series, so may start on the 1/72 Viper Mk. 2 & 7 along with the Cylon Raider.
