AUGUST 2023 MonSFFA e-MEETING, Post 3 of 7: Genuine Humour from Genuine Scientists

5) PRESENTATION: GENUINE HUMOUR FROM GENUINE SCIENTISTS

We open the afternoon’s programming with “Genuine Humour from Genuine Scientists,” a presentation on the wit, clever in-jokes, and spoofs of scientists, a group generally not associated with things comedic.

This afternoon’s e-meeting is something of an experiment. If the technology is performing properly and all has gone well, you are viewing a live-stream of MonSFFA’s first actual, physical, in-person meeting in over three years, now underway. Follow along, and participate, by way of our ZOOM-chat. (Note: the slides that our in-person audience will see during this particular presentation have been uploaded to this Website and are viewable below, if you wish a closer look.)

Are you able to clearly see and hear today’s proceedings? Please take a moment to leave a comment as to how well this live-stream/ZOOM-chat is working from your perspective. It is our hope to be able to live-stream future club meetings, thereby creating hybrid events in which participation may take place both in-person and virtually.

AUGUST 2023 MonSFFA e-MEETING, Post 2 of 7: Introduction and Agenda

2) INTRODUCTION

Welcome all, to MonSFFA’s August 2023 meeting. This event marks our return to a regular, in-person meeting schedule—it’s been too long—and if the warp core doesn’t explode, will also mark our first live-streaming of an actual, physical club meeting. Everything, everywhere, all at once! Both in-person attendees, and technology allowing, virtual participants will be able to take part!

Today’s e-meeting departs from the usual in that it is something of an experiment. If the technology is performing properly and all has gone well, you are viewing a live-stream of MonSFFA’s first actual, physical, in-person meeting in over three years, now underway. Follow along, and participate, by way of our ZOOM-chat.

4) TODAY’S AGENDA

AUGUST 2023 MonSFFA e-MEETING, Post 1 of 7: Pre-Meeting WiFi Testing

1) PRE-MEETING TESTING OF WIFI QUALITY FOR LIVE-STREAMING

This afternoon’s e-meeting will be something of an experiment. If the technology is performing properly and all goes well, you will be viewing a live-stream of MonSFFA’s first actual, physical, in-person meeting in over three years, about to get underway. Follow along, and participate, by way of our ZOOM-chat.

We’re starting the e-meeting a little earlier than usual, today, at 12:30PM rather than the usual 1:00PM. For the next half hour, we’ll be setting up and fine-tuning the live-stream and testing WiFi capacities. The meeting will officially open at 1:00PM.

We want to know if you are able to clearly see and hear today’s proceedings. Please tell us how things are coming across at your end, or take a moment to leave a comment as to how well this live-stream/ZOOM-chat is working from your perspective. It is our hope to be able to live-stream future club meetings, thereby creating hybrid events in which participation may take place both in-person and virtually.

NEXT MonSFFA e-MEETING IS TOMORROW AFTERNOON!

MonSFFA will hold its first actual, live, in-person club meeting in over three years tomorrow afternoon, August 12! We encourage all club members, current and former, to attend, and we look forward to seeing everyone again, face to face! It’s been too long!

At the same time, we’ll be hosting on ZOOM a parallel e-meeting for the benefit of those out-of-towners among our ranks. This online get-together will serve as a test of the local wifi available to us in our new meeting hall. We hope to enable ZOOMers to join in the fun and ultimately, we hope to establish hybrid MonSFFA meetings, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.
Everything, everywhere, all at once!
Click here to view or download a PDF version of the August 2023 issue of Impulse, the club’s news bulletin, which outlines everything you’ll need to know about this Saturday’s meeting, whether you plan on physically attending, or taking part virtually:
August 2023 Impulse
Note that we’re starting the e-meeting a little earlier than usual, at 12:30PM rather than 1:00PM.
This is to accommodate a trial run of our ZOOM-chat on the local WiFi; we’ll use that extra 30 minutes to run a few tests. Our aim is to successfully live-stream this, and future MonSFFA meetings for the benefit of our out-of-towners, and those locals who, on occasion, may not be able to make it to the meeting hall for one reason or another.
Your feedback will help us gauge the quality of the system, and if need be, fine-tune the set-up for optimum performance.
The meeting will officially open at 1:00PM, with the commencement of scheduled programming.

F-302 Countdown: The Unreleased Stargate Model Is About To Land

F-302 Countdown: The Unreleased Stargate Model Is About To Land

Master Replicas will sell the previously unreleased ship model, in limited quantities, starting this Friday. Here’s everything you need to know.

Stargate’s F-302 Fighter Interceptor is finally going up for sale this Friday, and we now have the first clear look at the model itself.

The model was originally designed by Eaglemoss for its “Hero Collector” line, but cancelled when the company went bankrupt last year. Master Replicas then stepped in and acquired all of Eaglemoss’s remaining stock, and has been selling them in weekly drops at MasterReplicas.com.

The hotly anticipated model is for a fan-favorite. The F-302 was to be the fourth ship in the Stargate line, following the Daedalus (BC-304), Ha’tak-class Goa’uld mothership, and the Death Glider.

The F-302 was first introduced in the sixth season premiere of Stargate SG-1, as the “X-302” experimental fighter. The craft is built by Earth engineers utilizing alien technologies acquired through the Stargate program. It was used to help save Earth from an attack by Anubis, and subsequently became a staple of Earth’s defense forces.

The 302 was featured throughout the remainder of SG-1‘s run, as well as on Stargate Atlantis and in the premiere episode of Stargate Universe.

Master Replicas’ screen-accurate model will be similar in size to the previously released Death Glider model, which had a 7.8-inch (20-centimeter) wingspan. Like the others we expect it is made of die-cast metal and ABS plastic. It features the ship’s familiar three-engine design (two standard thrusters flanking a larger booster rocket in the center), as well as four air-to-air missiles on the ventral side.

HOW TO BUY

Stargate fans who are interested in adding the F-302 to their collection will have a narrow window to pick one up before the ship is sold out. The drop goes live at MasterReplicas.com

A COMET SHAPED LIKE THE MILLENNIUM FALCON: Astronomers are monitoring a very unusual comet. A few days ago, Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks explosively brightened, spewing plumes of debris into space that now resemble a famous spaceship. No one knows for sure what happened, but it could be the eruption of an ice volcano on the comet’s surface. Full story @ Spaceweather.com.
