MonSFFilms’ Pterodactyl Takes Flight!

DATELINE, SUNDAY, APRIL 17, 2016:

After many months of planning, pre-production work, and test footage, MonSFFA’s film division, MonSFFilms, began shooting on its paper-cut-out, stop-motion animated short film project.

With final character art completed by writer/art director Keith Braithwaite, and the articulated model cardboard “skeletons”, or armatures, fashioned by animator Francois Menard on hand, production crew members Josée Bellemare, Cathy Palmer-Lister, and Marquise assembled the shooting models under Francois’ supervision. Meanwhile, Mark Burakoff, fabricator of our animation stand, Keith, Dominique Durocher, Marc Durocher, and others set up a shooting stage in a corner of the club’s meeting room.

The deft lighting of clouds (cotton wadding) resulted in a visually striking environment through which our Pterodactyl could fly.

The shoot will continue in the coming months.

I seriously wonder if some of these are even possible–The Wheel of Time? Even with all the advances in medical science, I doubt I would live long enough to see the whole series.

CBS Sues To Block Axanar Trek Movie

Paramount and CBS have filed a copyright infringement suit against Alec Peters and others involved in making Axanar, a fan-produced Star Trek movie project that raised more than $1 million on Kickstarter and Indiegogo.

Paramount has tolerated other elaborate fan productions over the years, such as the crowdfunded fan films Star Trek: Of Gods and Men, which received $150,000 in donations in 2006 and Star Trek: Renegades, which raised $375,000 in 2014. It maybe that Axanar’s budget, or CBS being on the verge of launching its new TV franchise, caused the companies to pull the trigger.

Part of the immediate fan reaction to the lawsuit has been a Support Axanar Petition at Change.org.
