A new immersive experience inspired by the whimsical works of Dr. Seuss is opening in the Toronto area this fall. The 15,000-square-foot exhibit inside a Mississauga, Ont., mall runs from Oct. 26 to Jan. 5 before a U.S. tour. Highlights include a Grinch-themed room, a balloon-filled maze inspired by Oh, The Places You’ll Go, a room full of waist-high clovers as a nod to Horton Hears a Who!, and a mirrored room featuring the Sneetches. The interactive gallery is a collaboration between children’s entertainment company Dr. Seuss Enterprises and event company Kilburn Live.

In 2012, Toronto-based journalist John Zada travelled to British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest to write about the up-and-coming wilderness tourism destination. But while there, he caught wind of a different kind of story: tales of a monstrous apparition on the edge of a youth camp near the town of Bella Bella, rumoured to be the mythical wild ape-man hybrid known in North America as Sasquatch or Bigfoot.

The alleged sighting reawakened Zada’s own childhood fascination with the creature — known elsewhere in the world as the yeti or yowie — and sparked a multi-year quest to understand the allure of the legend. Is the Sasquatch a lost species of hominid, so rare and intelligent that it has so far been able to evade the best efforts of science to identify it? Milky Way’s Central Black Hole Brightens

Tuan Do (UCLA) and colleagues have caught an unprecedented boost in the glow coming from gas just outside our galaxy’s central black hole, Sgr A*.

The uptick appeared in infrared images taken this past spring with the Keck II Telescope on Maunakea, as part of the UCLA Galactic Center Group’s ongoing monitoring of Sgr A*. The increase is twice as bright as anything observed from the black hole since astronomers first detected variations in its light in 2003. Thus, it’s hard to reconcile as a random blip.

It might be that Sgr A* is chomping down on an extra helping of hot gas, perhaps dished up from its surroundings by the gravitational consequences of the star S2’s close pass in 2018, or by that of the dusty object G2 in 2014. The team continues to watch the black hole to see whether the increase in activity continues.

The result appears in the September 10th Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Have an exhibition on the illustrations and collectables for the comic book hero Batman. The Museum of illustration exhibits (3 different exhibits) are spread out over 4 floors of the building. Starting from the late 1930’s to modern times we witness the evolution of Batman. Original artworks and cartoons are hanging off the walls displayed by different time periods ( or evolution periods) of the hero. We can see this over the different decades, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and of course the 60’s evolution from the tv series. The more recent decades are also covered in the exhibition.

Than there is the Chip Kidds obsessive collection of Batman material also on display. This includes the limited editions (2006 & 2013) Batman Black & White sketch covers commissioned by Chip Kidd.

The third exhibition is the original artwork of Japanese Bat-Manga! The artwork by illustrator Jairo Kuwata brings a completely different outlook on the comic book hero. This is the first time that a a substantial portion of the original artwork has been shown in North America.
