Scientists simply did not know where it fitted in the dino family tree.<\/p>\n<p>In the currently accepted family tree, the ornithischian group was always thought to be completely unrelated to all of the other dinosaurs.<\/p>\n<p>Palaeontologists regarded these creatures as an odd-ball group. <a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/science-environment-39305750\">But a reassessment by Mr Baron published in March<\/a> in the journal <a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v543\/n7646\/full\/nature21700.html?foxtrotcallback=true\">Nature<\/a> indicated that ornithischians were more closely related to the meat-eaters, such as <i>T.rex<\/i>, than previously thought.<\/p>\n<p>And it is in re-configuring the dinosaur family tree that Mr Baron transforms the Frankenstein dinosaur from an enigma into a missing link.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Now that we think ornithischians and meat-eating dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus are related, <i>Chilesaurus<\/i> slots exactly in between the two groups. It is a perfect half-and-half mix.
