By a vote of those present at our recent May club meeting, we have selected, from a list of options, the Montreal Planetarium<\/strong> as our 2026 Field Trip destination<\/strong>! Featured this summer is \u201cRouge 2100,\u201d an interactive experience<\/strong> centered on Mars<\/strong>, and mankind\u2019s projected colonization of the Red Planet in the not-too-distant future! Addressed, as well, is our place in the universe and the fragile balance that must be maintained if all species are to prosper.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, the planet Mars is at the heart of exciting research, and the focus of several space programs\u2026. Hop aboard the interplanetary shuttle and set off on an odyssey to Mars<\/strong>,\u201d reads the Planetarium\u2019s promotional material for this Martian adventure. \u201cWelcome to a fictional base atop Mount Olympus. Welcome to Mars in 2100!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

This experience offers a five-chapter journey, in as many rooms, where the first steps of humans on Mars in the year 2100 are realistically imagined! Guided by the AI \u201cFelicity 87,\u201d travellers leave Earth for Mars to discover different aspects of life on our neighbouring planet<\/strong>. How could we live on Mars? How is gravity different than on Earth? What sources of energy may be tapped, and what kind of a spacesuit would be required to safely walk on the Martian surface? These are just some of the questions to be answered!<\/p>\n

Also included in the price of admission are various film presentations<\/strong> playing in the Planetarium\u2019s two theatres<\/strong>, including a celebration of Pink Floyd\u2019s spacey 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon!<\/p>\n

MonSFFA\u2019s 2026 Field Trip<\/strong> is scheduled for Saturday, June 6<\/strong>. Our plan is to meet in the Planetarium\u2019s main lobby between 12:00PM and 12:30PM<\/strong>, then purchase tickets and enter as a group around 1:00PM to enjoy an afternoon of Martian adventure, and more!\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Planetarium is located<\/strong> at 4801 avenue Pierre-de Coubertin, right next to the Olympic Stadium and Biod\u00f4me<\/strong> in the city\u2019s East End. Viau is the nearest Metro station; the nearest paid parking lot is located at 3000 rue Viau, or you can try your luck parking on any of the surrounding streets, where permitted and available.<\/p>\n

Adult admission<\/strong> comes in easily at less than $30\/person<\/strong>\u2014there are various discounts for residents of the Greater Montreal Area, students, seniors, and families. As always, club members are responsible for their own admission charges.<\/p>\n
