Co-Chair Message \u2013 Can*Con 2021<\/h4>\n

Greetings! Important update from the Can*Con command deck, looking ahead to the rest of this year and beyond.<\/p>\n

First, though, we want to take a moment to thank our amazing volunteers. Over the past year, they\u2019ve been hosting mini events to educate and entertain, and bring the community together. So please join us in thanking our Can*Con*Line team: Brandon Crilly, Erin Rockfort, Marco Cultrera, Evan May, Cortni Fernandez, Phoebe Barton, Millie Ho, Jaggy Sue, and David Demchuk<\/strong>. And a big thank you to our panelists and moderators, as well!<\/p>\n

Now, let\u2019s discuss the future. We said at the beginning of the year that we would look at the odds of being able to pull off a successful, safe and inclusive Can*Con\u00a02021. Between slow vaccine roll-outs and the fact that, well, pandemic is exhausting and we want to respect everyone\u2019s bandwidth, we\u2019ve made the difficult decision to not host Can*Con this year, in either an in-person or virtual format. We want to get back together with everyone so much, but it\u2019s important to do so when it\u2019s safe and\u00a0everyone<\/em>\u00a0can attend.\u00a0That will have to wait a while longer, unfortunately.<\/p>\n

We will still be hosting the Aurora Awards<\/strong> in the fall, which we\u2019re super excited for! More news on that later.<\/p>\n

Also, out of respect for our volunteers\u2019 time, energy, and awesomeness, we\u2019ve decided that our next amazing event (\u201cWriting the Family<\/strong>\u201d on May\u00a027th!) will be our final one for this year, with the exception of the Auroras. A panel focusing on family is a lovely note to end on, at least for now. We\u2019ll focus instead on putting together an unforgettable live con in 2022!<\/p>\n
